Garden Member Benefits

You are joining your neighbors in a cooperative garden, the entire space is managed as one large garden through the coordinated efforts of many community members. Produce from the garden is distributed first to member gardeners, we ask that you take only what you and your family will consume. Any surplus will be shared with Hollyvilla residents, then offered to the larger community.

It takes a village! As as a Hollyvilla Garden Member we ask that you...

  •  Plan to sign up for at least one "Plant Patrol" week during the growing season to water, weed, keep an eye out for pests and enjoy the week's harvest!
  • Keep up to date on garden happenings and events through the Hollyvilla Garden website or Facebook page.
  • Attend most meetings, workdays, and scheduled events. Your involvement with the other gardeners keeps everyone on the same page about projects and  maintenance. It is a great opportunity to work as a team.
  • Share what you see. Notify other garden members through the private community online group if you see pests in the garden or plants that are not thriving.
  • Help us learn. When one gardener learns something new, they can then become a resource for everyone in the garden.
  • Help your neighbors. Don’t be afraid to reach out for help! If for personal reasons, you cannot attend for an extended time, let another gardener know.

Regular visits are essential to maintaining the upkeep of the entire garden. Set a schedule that works for you. Joining a cooperative work day with other gardeners allows information to be shared and grows community.

Please direct any questions or comments to the garden leadership team- HollyvillaGarden@gmail.com, (502) 916-8176.

The community members of Hollyvilla Garden agree on the following set of guidelines:

  1.  All gardeners must complete the application form below and pay a $10 yearly membership per household/family by October 31. (this fee goes toward shared garden water usage ~$40 mo.)
  2. Garden meetings and work parties occur frequently throughout the season. Typicially, the last Saturday of the month at 10a or 1p. All gardeners should plan to attend. If you cannot attend a scheduled meeting, please let your fellow gardeners know.
  3. Do not use chemicals or pesticides in the garden. If you see a need for pest control or signs of disease on plants that requires product intervention please notify the leadership team hollyvillagarden@gmail.com. Please do not smoke while tending the garden.
  4. We will plan the site map for plant placements together to rotate crops throughout the season. If you have a plant donation or request, please coordinate with fellow gardeners and the garden leadership team before planting in the garden. Do not plant illegal plants.
  5. Please weigh harvested produce with the scale provided prior to taking it home and document weight on the sheet provided. Keeping track of yield is required as part of our grant award agreement and helps us get more grants the following year.
  6. Do not over-harvest from the garden. Please take only what your household can enjoy.
  7. Place weeds and dead plants in the compost bin. Diseased plants should be bagged and discarded. All gardeners must help clean the garden at the end of the season.
  8. Do not leave the water running. Violators may be subject to a fine to cover water bill costs.
  9. All gardeners should pick up litter if they see it. Please pack out the trash you pack in. To keep costs down, we do not have trash service for the garden.
  10. All gardeners should report instances of theft or vandalism to the garden co-leaders.
  11. All gardeners should use common courtesy in dealing with their neighbors. Kindness builds community.
